Beyond AIDS, Inc. is a U.S.-based public non-profit membership organization dedicated to reversing the course of the global HIV epidemic through sound public health policy.
It works to improve public health policies, laws, and regulations to better control HIV transmission. Some of these efforts involve the application of techniques that have been successful in fighting other communicable diseases but have been underutilized for HIV/AIDS. Beyond AIDS strikes an uncharted pathway beyond the perilous present, toward a future world in which HIV/AIDS can become a steadily diminishing threat to mankind.
Beyond AIDS advocates a balance between rights and responsibilities, and between risk avoidance and harm reduction, in protecting the lives and health of the human population. And while the struggle against HIV/AIDS epidemic is exceptional, Beyond AIDS opposes making it an exception to public health.
The organization also attempts to refocus public health efforts to achieve greater priority for other diseases, neglected or emerging, whose detection and prevention lacks adequate resources. Examples are other bloodborne and sexually transmitted infections, for which screening and education might be cost-effectively coordinated with HIV/AIDS.
Membership in Beyond AIDS is open to anyone who shares these goals. Although Beyond AIDS functions primarily as a national American organization, international members are welcome, and attention is increasingly global in scope.
The organization also operates the tax-deductible Beyond AIDS Foundation, dedicated to education and research for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and similarly transmitted diseases. Despite its name, the Beyond AIDS Foundation is not a Section 509 grantor and is not independently endowed at this time, but depends on donations to fund its work. Activities funded by this entity are generally identified with the Beyond AIDS Foundation name.
This Web site serves both the membership organization and the foundation. Both are registered in Virginia as nonprofit corporations, Beyond AIDS in September 1999, and the foundation in January 2002 as a 501(c)3, EIN 54-2017450. To contribute to either or both, please click on "Make a Donation."
We honor the memory of Ronald Voth, our first Webmaster, who passed away in 2005. Our current Web designer is Alissa Small (www.alissasmall.com).
